Hyde Park Progress is a blog devoted to promoting reasonable economic improvement in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. It is a forum for members of the community who want to end the artificial isolation of Hyde Park from the larger economy of the City. It calls for the improvement of neighborhood retail and commercial amenities, safety, and liveliness.

Beautiful, beautiful hippos. Sigh.
Yeah, I don't normally associate Hippos with cuteness but this is a really cute picture. :-) The baby is adorable.
Most accidental tourist deaths in African game parks are the result of hippo bites.
Probably from people saying "oh, look at the cute baby hippo!"
Exactly.
If those hippos are squatting on University property, who's going to tell them to leave?
Squatting is right! What's used as a pooper scooper, a front-end loader?

You really don't want to be in front of, or behind of, a hippo.

Wow, I dislike the sensationalizing tone of that article. My good friend runs a hippo preserve in Zimbabwe. Most hippo attacks occur in and near the water: fishermen take advantage of the fact that hippo dung in the water attracts fish, so they fish near pods, which is dangerous. Women wash their clothes in the river, etc., where they're just as likely to be dragged in by a crocodile. Wild animals are unpredictable, so just being near them is dangerous. Speaking of which.
Re: woman in "Speaking of which" video, link furnished in Beth's comment. Clearly, that woman is from Hyde Park and was campaigning to restore polar bears to their natural habitat at the Point.
