Hyde Park Progress is a blog devoted to promoting reasonable economic improvement in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. It is a forum for members of the community who want to end the artificial isolation of Hyde Park from the larger economy of the City. It calls for the improvement of neighborhood retail and commercial amenities, safety, and liveliness.

Duty now, for the future.
Do any of those businesses still exist? Rubloff sounds familiar. Parker Holsman is gone, right?
I've always imagined the Piccadilly must've been quite a site to see in its prime. It just looks majestic on the outside...or at least like it was majestic once.
I know Parker Holsman still manages properties in Hyde Park; I think their office is on 57th St.
Back when the Herald could actually conceptualize progress, in some form or another, instead of leaving it to the blogosphere.
Parker Holsman is next door to the barber shop at 57th and Harper. It seems at one time they were a pretty substantial landlord in Hyde Park.
In my previous apartment (university-owned and slated for demolition for the new medical center), when someone called me from the call box, "Parker Holsman" came up on my caller ID. It really confused me for a while: why was I getting all these calls from this person and why did I always miss my UPS deliveries?
The editorial in this week's Herald is silly. Just wanted to say that.
Thanks Greg. I'll get to it tomorrow!
Hmmm, I find it very interesting that there were five -- count them, FIVE -- Hyde Park hotels listed in this flyer.
It's so hard for me to even envision what it must have been like to have FIVE hotels in the neighborhood when we're stuck with the Slumada and the crumbling Doctors Hospital structure.
