Has it really been almost five years since the Hyde Park Co-op closed? Yes, it has. Time flies when you're having decent shopping. Hyde Park still has "issues," but at least the long and painful Co-op trauma is gone forever. Or so I thought till I saw the September 19 Hyde Park Herald. Someone wrote to the editors proposing the establishment of a new food co-op in the neighborhood. Arrrghh! I am merely pointing out the letter, not discussing the proposal. Right now I don't have the stomach for it. Just the thought of another Hyde Park co-op gives me the willies.

Richard, it wasn't the Co-Ops fault that it was grossly mismanaged, just as expensive as Treasure Island, stocked poor quality goods, and had poor service. They just need to do the exact same thing all over again, but this time it will somehow be different!
Maybe they can combine it with the3 inevitable Orly's version 3.0. Twice the failure for the price of one!
Yea, I read this and had a good laugh...
The old coop was mismanaged toward the end, but not all coops are. In fact, many are high quality, affordable places that respond better to a community's needs better than the for-profit market does.
Having said that, I don't think hyde park needs a retail food coop. Between hyde park produce, treasure island, open produce, harper foods, and the coming whole foods, we have ample grocery options.
